For a couple of weekends in a row I have been DJ'ing with my friend Brian Parrish of the Casbah at a place in Southtown called "The Friendly Spot" here in San Antonio. Its an afternoon where we bounce 7" records off each other in effort to create a chill vibe for the afternoon. Brian has been producing the Casbah for decades and my DJ name is "Foxy." Thats where we got "Foxy Casbah." Have a listen on us.
We spend the week curating this show. It's a mix of blues, garage, surf and whatever funky stuff we find. We pride ourselves in digging at various spots around town to get the tracks we need to spin our best set. We only spin vinyl so if we ain't got it, we can't spin it. We do got a lot and we try our best to fill any requests we get. Collecting vinyl for the show can be an expensive habit, depending on how we get our mitts on the wax. I do some shopping through discogs, but the majority of the records in my collection I get out in the wild. Mostly at estate sales where I pluck them straight out of some deceased persons personal library. Many discs have not been played in years, if ever. Its nice that what we bring to table gets the love it deserves as well as fresh ears to take it all in.
Enjoy!
I've been spending some time with poetry. This is "I heard a fly buzz" by Emily Dickinson.
